English what I learned in USA

I learned many things in Tamara’s writing and grammar class about for 4 month. At grammar class we learned about tenses for example simple tense, progressive tense, perfect tense etc... We made graphs about how to use the tense and examples by our selves. We can show this graph whenever we forget how to use them. It’s really good things for us.
At the writing class we learned about how to write sentences, paragraphs, and essays. Also we learned about time order. At first I didn’t know what differences between paragraph and essay, but now I can understand it. Essay is just longer and more details than paragraph. But I didn’t know what is thesis yet. I know topic sentence, I thought topic sentence and thesis are the same one. So I want to know about thesis and topic sentence again.
It’s difficult for me to study English but I enjoy studying English. My teacher Tamara is really good teacher for you. My advice for next students is speak a lot in the class and if you can’t understand, you should ask Tamara immediately. She will answer you until you can understand. Thanks to Tamara I had a great time in America, thank you Tamara, I love you Tamara.

thanksgiving dayyyy

Thanksgiving day is celebrated each year on the fourth Thursday of November in the United States. I didn’t know what is thanksgiving day and why the people celebrate this day. We celebrate labor thanksgiving day on November 23. They are almost same day, so I thought thanksgiving day and labor thanksgiving day is same holiday. But I heard the woman who knows Japanese culture and American culture what difference between thanksgiving day and labor thanksgiving day, she said the thanksgiving day in America is thanks to god for giving foods. By contrast Japanese labor thanksgiving day is the day that thanks for the people to honor labor, celebrate manufacturing and give thanks to one another. So the name of day is similar but it is different what the people thanks for. I understood but just listen and celebrate for real is different. We have come from America a great distance, I want to celebrate at home with American people. I can’t eat turkey at home because I’m living in dome but Tomoe can so I’m so jealous of Tomoe.

halloween:)

The JSA(Japanese Student Association) held the Haunted House on Tuesday night. I joined as a ghost. I was a Sadako that night. Do you know Sadako? Sadako is the most typical ghost in Japan. We can say symbol of ghost in Japan. Sadako appear in the film of horror movie “ The ring”. She has very long black hair, and she died but she keep living in the video which called curse video. She kills someone who watched the curse video. It’s really scary movie. This time we had to be own country ghost, so I and Tomoe were Sadako.
Sadako doesn’t have injure in her face in the film but we made up some injure because of more fear. It was my first time that I make up special makeup in my life. I got my face made up 2 injures in cheek and forehead. It looked like a real injures. I put on wig so, it was really scary injures which we can see a chink in the long hair occasionally.
At first I couldn’t amaze people well because in spite of we have own space, other ghost came my space so I couldn’t appear in front of customer, so it was really boring for me. But I kept trying to appear then I noticed one thing. Where is Tomoe ? I and Tomoe appeared near place at first, but I couldn’t find her about for 20 minutes. I looked for Tomoe and I found her at the corner of the room. She was lying on the floor so I thought she pretend dead people. But she was sleeping!!! There were very noisy for shouting people and video’s sound and there were smoking by fog machine. I can’t believe her. I think she is genius in sleep!!! The fire alarm went off because of too much smoke. Probably Tomoe can’t escape if there are a fire in her bed room. Finally I could appear with perfect timing and someone fell down when I amazed him. To amaze people was really funny!!!

fall break in USA♥

windy city Chicago♥
Tomoe, Ayano, Emma, Ramin and, I went to Chicago in fall break. This is my first time to go to Chicago. We went to Chicago by bus. We took about 5 hours so I was very tired. Chicago was very cold and windy. I didn’t know Chicago called windy city. Compare with Saint Louis and Chicago, I always wear the T-shirt in Saint Louis but I wore sweater and jacket in Chicago. We visit to millennium park, navy pier, and watched blue man in there. There are many famous place to see for example John Hancock, museum of contemporaray art, sky deck, art institute of Chicago, shedd aquarium, adler planetarium and, field museum of natural history. Tell the truth I wanted to go more place especially shedd aquarium and field museum of natural history but I’m satisfied with shopping.
I watched blue man show first time. I have watched on TV in Japan but the enjoyment wasn’t same at all between watch on TV and watch directly because the audience is caught up in the show. There were a lot of pleasure what we couldn’t know on TV. Our seat was very far from the stage but the blue man came some time. The show was funny. In the end of the show, the music sounded heavily and the light was glittering like night spot. I was happy I took picture with blue man!!
I like the best in Chicago is statue of Marilyn Monroe. I didn’t know there are statue of famous pose Marilyn Monroe in Chicago. It was very huge and elaborate statue. Why I like this the best is that I’m interested in her panties. When we took a picture with her, I was embarrassed seeing her panties. But the panties moved me at first sight because that is really likes real panties. The statue was wearing white panties!!!!! I didn’t know what color she was wearing. I couldn’t take picture with panties at first visit because to take picture of someones panties was little embarrassed me. But I wanted to tell my friends about her panties, so I went to there again and I took picture with shorts. I wondered that Marilyn Monroe was putting on the same panties when she filmed the movie.
Look back on this Chicago trip, my brain filled with her panties. haha..lol

Surprise party♥

Yesterday, 6th of October is Hajar’s birthday!! Tomoe, Ayano, Nidaa and I planed surprise party in Adelia’s class. Tomoe bought cake, and Nidaa brought juice and we wrote a birthday card. Actually I had to prepare the video about Hajar but I couldn’t do it bacause I had to presentation in Adelia’s class. I was pushed for time. Before the class, Nidaa and Hajar went out the class room, then we prepared the party. We waited them with the light turn off. When Nidaa and Hajar came to class we sang a birthday song. I thought she was aware of the surprise party because we talked about party a lot, we brought big baggage, we ware fidgeting. But she completely didn’t notice because she didn’t remember own birthday so Hajar’s surprise party succeeded!! She said this is the first time to celebrate by someone. In Japan we celebrate birthday every day so I felt a bit of culture of a shock. I regret that I couldn’t prepare Hajar’s video but it was so fun!! I can’t wait next someone’s birthday:)♥

My hero

Miyazaki Hayao is Japanese cartoonist and direction, and he established Studio Jiburi. Do you know Sen to Chihiro no Kamikakushi (Spirited Away) or Mononoke hime (princess Mononoke) ? He made these famous movies. Sen to Chihiro no Kamikakushi is story about a girl whose name Chihiro. She works in the strange public bath, because she wants to help her parents who were changed pigs. Finally she noticed her own feeling. Mononoke hime is the story about a girl whose name San. She is a human but she lives with Japanese wolfs. She doesn’t like human because her wolf friend was killed by people. This movie speak to us how to live with animals and nature. He made a lot of movies until now and he won many prizes in the world. Why he is hero? Did he help someone? No! Did he protect someone ? No!! There are many cartoonist in Japan, but every Japanese know him like Obama in America. And His movies are very beautiful scene. He always write forest, sea or river. It’s very mysterious. Why he always write nature in his movie is he wants to take a strong stand for the audience that people destroy the natural world. I was reflected when I watched his movie so I think he is my hero. I agree with him because people destroyed the natural world too much until now, and maybe from now on.

I can't understand about politics :'(

There many difference about politics between Japan and America. I’m not interested in politics so I don’t know about politics. First, in Japan head of state is prime minister but in America head of state is president. I don’t know what is the difference between a president and prime minister so I searched. According to the site the differences between a president and a prime minister largely depend upon the country to which one is referring. A president and prime minister may have relatively equal powers, but this again is dependent upon the type of government a country employs.
Second, in Japan we can vote from 20 years old, in America they can vote from 18 years old. The diet discussed about the age of we can vote before. Someone suggested we can vote from 18 years old but it didn’t change because Japanese considers adult over 20 so 18 considers child and they can’t think about politics. I think so too because I’m 18 years old now and I can’t understand about politics and I don’t want to learn about politics.

Third, about immigrants. In Japan Currently the constitution of Japan defines voting rights as only for citizens. There are many countries immigrants can vote in the world for example Belgium, Netherlands, Slovenia, Lithuania Sweden, Denmark...etc. In my opinion we need not to prohibit immigrants to vote. If the government prohibit them seems to discriminate in racial. To vote only Japanese it will be a parochical viewpoint. Japan needs opinion not only Japanese. From foreign people point of view, Japan might be better than now.
Recently Japanese prime minister is changing a lot about per a year. Last change is 2 of September 2011. This month!! I don’t understand why they change so. I think it’s too hard for children to remember the name all of them. I can’t remember the name even now. Japan is crazy!! Japanese people hope anyone who can rule a country for long time and who has ideas everyone can live happy.

about new things in USA

Today I wanna talk about new foods and miss foods.
I ate sweet rice when I went to International Festival. Sweet rice is Thai food. When I ate sweet rice, I surprised at first because the rice is similar to Japanese rice but its taste was different. I’ve never eat rice which taste sweet. I like sweet food, for example cotton candy, snickers, kitkat and starch syrup so sweet rice makes me so happy. I like Thai rice more than Japanese rice. When I bought in the International Festival, the rice was in the bamboo. I cracked and scaled the bamboo for eat it. I also drink Thai coffee and it was also sweet. I can’t drink coffee without sugar and milk. I always put in sugar a lot. Thai coffee is so sweet so I could drink. I think Thai foods are very sweet so I love it !! This is URL what is sweet rice and how to make sweet rice.

I like American foods but I like Japanese foods more than American foods especially ramen is the best. Ramen is noodle soup. I wanna eat it so much!! I saw ramen in American supermarket when I went but it is not ramen it’s other food that just pour the hot water and wait 3 minutes. It’s also ramen but I want to eat is not precooked Chinese noodles. I heard that there have Japanese ramen restaurant in Chicago so I want to go there but it’s too far from here. I want American people to eat real Japanese ramen. If you eat real ramen you will not able to eat instant. I recommend you to eat soy sauce ramen in Japan.
I also like jagariko. It’s Japanese snack. Jagariko made from potatoes. Deep-fry the potatoes like a French fries but jagariko is more hard. It has many kind of taste for example salad, cheese, butter, soy sauce etc... I ate it almost every day so my friend will send me it a lot. She said “ you can’t live without jagariko”. It’s true. It’s too hard for me to live without jagariko for 4 month!! I’m so happy. I want to eat it right away. I can’t wait my sweet baby:9

This is picture of Japanese Student Association in 9 Sep. There many people who likes Japanse or Japanese cultures. I ate sushi at there:D

I want to know MORE!!

Hi! Did you read my first blog? ...Yes?! Thank you: )♥ This time I would like to write about my experience as a student in America.

First, I feel that are few students in the class in America. My ESL class has only 6 students!!! I thought I have to speak a lot when I went to First class! I can’t speak English so, I don’t want to speak a lot!! In Japan, there are students at least 30 in one class so, we have time before answer the question but now, I can’t relieve if I answer the question because my turn come around immediately. One of the class which I took in Japan has over 250 students in the class. Every students have to speak in the class in America but in Japan we just listen. Speaks just our teachers. I can’t speak a lot in the class but I want to speak what I’m thinking before I’ll return to Japan.

Second, many people who come from foreign country in the class.Obirin University which I went in Japan accept many foreign people. I thought Obirin University is very cosmopolitan school but I came Webster University and I thought Webster University is by far more cosmopolitan than Obirin University. I’ve never take the class with foreigners in Japan so, I surprised at this school. I’m taking class with American, British, Spanish, Chinese, Taiwanese, African, India, Saudi Arabian and more...!!! What real country is here?! But I’m so happy because I can meet many country people every day and I can talk to them so I can know foreign country cultures!! I’m interested in international cultures so I like American class.

Third, I had trouble in tip. We need not pay tips in Japan but in America we have to pay. But I didn’t know how much should I pay. I had to give tips when I lived in Spain. In Europe we always give tips 2~5 no matter how many dishes I ate. But in America I heard we should give tips about one tenth of the count. When I went to the restaurant at first time, I didn’t know this so I give tips only $3. Well, anybody didn’t teach me!!! We don’t know American culture yet so we learn it from failure. We should more mistake!! If I go that restaurant I give tips add rest to last time: P
I have more things I thought and surprised in America. I want to know about America while I’m staying in America.

This is picture of Japanese FES!! I'm glad American to know Japanese cultures:D  9/5/2011

I taught American how to make ORIGAMI★ It was hard for me to teach ORIGAMI in English!! But I enjoyed so much.

I AM KAREN♥

Who am I ?

My name is Karen Shibao. I’m from Tokyo,Japan. But I live in America now, because I wanna study English and cultures. I have a older sister and a dog.

I lived in Belgium when I was 8 years old and I lived in Spain when I was 9 years old. I lived Spain about for 5 years so, I can speak Spanish little. But I don’t remember Spanish because it was child so, I wanna study Spanish too. I like watching movies and listening musics especially my favorite movies are Hairspray,Twilight and High school musical, and my favorite artists are Taylor Swift,Selena Gomez,Lady Gaga, Mcfly and Miley Cyrus. My blog tittle “Party In The USA” is my favorite song of Miley Cyrus.

This is my first trip to America and I felt that America is everything big size. I like big mac and I always eat big mac in Japan so I ordered big mac in America too. It was hard for me to eat all. It’s too big!! Also houses are very big. I wanna live in big house in Japan like America.

A Thing I don’t like America is everybody come in without take off their shoes and they live with their shoes put on.I know this American culture and my friends also live with their shoes put on who lives in Spain, but I don’t like this culture anyway. Why get on the bed or sofa with shoes? It’s dirty!! I sleep on there every day!! You can have stepped droppings today!! This is a thing I don’t like American culture.
But I think American people are very intimate because everybody say "Hi!!" and smiles me. Japanese people say "Hi!!" to only friends so, everybody talk to me makes me so happy. I love USA and I wanna live in America forever!!!!

This is my friend Maggie!! She from Taiwan!
